Day 11: Cloverfield Strikes Again!?!?!

Friday night....well, saturday morning....seemed liked the perfect setting for a second attack by the Cloverfield monster (If you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about, watch "Cloverfield". The fact that J.J. Abrams - the producer of LOST - produces it automatically makes it a film worth seeing). The power had gone out all over my school's campus (for those of you who don't know, I attend a boarding school), and sirens were going off in my dorm's common rooms and in several administrative buildings (it looked like a rave was occurring in the "learning center"). If you looked down the street to the gate, it seemed as though the entire city (sans street lamps) had lost power...kinda like the view of NYC from the roof of Rob's apartment in Cloverfield. It was pretty sketchy to say the least, but it was also rather exciting, and I felt I could use the experience to start off today's blog....well, yesterday's blog. More about that later (to limit confusion, I will be referring to January 23rd as "today" instead of "yesterday")

My day started out pretty slowly with a wake-up time of 11:30 (ah, the wonders of sleeping in). After listening to a friend of mine attempt to play some Killer's classics (Mr. Brightside and Spaceman) on the electric guitar, we all went to McDonald's for some lunch. This summer I had launched an all out self-boycott of the restaurant. I mean, who wants to eat freeze-dried meat? ick. Recently however I've become accustomed to their McChicken sandwiches and ever since McDonalds has returned to my list of possible places to eat-out (although its pretty much on the bottom of that list).

After a few hours of Spore (a game I hope I never have to play: it looks like it could literally take a whole lifetime to finish), me and a couple friends went out to eat at this Greek restaurant. I don't know much about Greece (except for the fact that the capital is Athens, the second largest city is ThessalonĂki, and it has a lot to do with the movie 300), so choosing a meal become more of a game of roulette than anything. Luckily my bet on the double zero payed off with the Chicken Souvlaki (sp?). It's basically cubes of grilled chicken marinated in some heavenly spices (not sure which one's) served on pita bread with rice pilaf. You can learn more about the dish here. If you ever find yourself lost in Greece, at least you know what to eat now ;).

After our meal, a game developed in which they named a country and I had to name its capital. Needless to say, they didn't do so well...
They claimed to have gotten me when one of them asked me for the capital of Normandy. I told them it was a city in France, but apparently its a region of France. It's kinda annoying that they, in gamer-terms, "glitch-won", but I was bound to forget a country's capital sooner or later. You might be asking...where am I going with all this? Well, its an intro to the:

DAY 11 CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE CHAMPIONS BUT HAVE TO WIN A CHALLENGE OF CHAMPIONS IN ORDER TO BE A CHAMPION

It's simple. You have one chance to give me an obscure country in the comments. If I don't know it, you win, and you'll get a shoutout in tomorrow's blog. If I do know it, you'll still receive a *high-five* as a consolation prize. Good Luck!

To finish the day off I watched District 9 for the third time. I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but this is another "must watch NOW" flick. It is currently out on DVD and blu-ray, so take my advice and rent it sometime. If you're really into sci-fi, you'll definitely love this flim.

Unfortunately, the movie lasted well past midnight, and I was unable to upload the daily blog on-time, which is why you're getting this a day late. But hey, at least today's blog has some actual meat in it.

My musical recommendation for today is "1,2,3,4" by the Plain White T's. The Plain White T's has been labeled by my uncle as the most "bubblegum" band of the decade, but I beg to differ. This song's sweet melody and warm lyrics establishes it as a love-song not to be reckoned with...even by my uncle. You can listen to e^0, the cube root of 8, 3!-3, 10 in base 4 here

Haha, its called a "shout-out" Caroline. I mean you can have a shoot-out, but then you'd need to acquire a virtual basketball, lol. Nooooo, ninja-hugged again!!! :D
